This is my final outcome of what will be my Student Magazine. I firstly had the create my background. I inserted in my image that i wanted to use and to create the effect of the background being bright i changed the capacity to 50% so that it would make the image fade. I then put the same photo in to PhotoShop and cut round the image of the girl so that it was just her without a background. When cutting out the image I made sure that it went on to a clear background so that i could then put it in to InDesign. I then positioned the faded image and then inserted the cut out image of the girl and lined it up with the image. This meant i could create the effect of having a faded background but with the girl having a 100|% opacity making her stand out. I then worked on the masthead of my magazine. I used the font 'Bell MT' and made the 'Student Magazine' green to stand out and the created the smaller 'South Downs College' and made it dark blue. The reason i chose these colours is because these are the colours used on the South Downs College logo. I also inserted the logo on to the top corner of my magazine so it's clear to who the magazine is representing.Next lesson, i hope to add the cover lines, and a shape advertising the free voucher inside.
My Student Magazine final draft
This is an image of my Student Magazine completed. I added in the issue number and what month that the magazine will be published. I also added a sub heading between Student and Magazine saying 'Choosing the right college for you'. The reason for this being published in this month is so that it can be given out to all schools as it is based on helping the students decide on what college they go to in the new academic year. I then went on and added the cover lines, I based two around the college so that it shows that inside the magazine there will be things based on the college but i also based two of the cover lines on things that students will find useful during their last year in school. This gives my magazine a good balance and will get more students to read the magazine. The colours I used within the magazine are all blues and greens to keep it related to the theme of South Downs College. I used different shades of each colour to make it more interesting instead of using the same shade over and over again. This gives it variety and appeals to the students more as it isn't all plain and simple, it looks fun. Finally, I went on to produce the star in the bottom left hand corner to advertise that there will be a 10% off voucher in my magazine. In my initial ideas, i said that there would be a voucher for the cafes, but as this magazine will be given out to school to help the students decide on which college they go to they will get no use out of the voucher and therefore by making it a 10%off voucher, the students will all get use out of it and relating to the cover lines, it may be used in prom shops. I also put the south downs logo within the star to make it stand out more and left the letter stand out so it catches the audiences eye.
I think that the background on my magazine is the strongest point. The reason I think this is because i have taken one photo and made it my own by using the photo and lightening it for the background, and then using the photo again to cut around the girl and place it over the top to make it stand out. I think this makes my magazine strong as i still have a background but the focus point is kept to full colour and capacity making it stand out.
My contents page so far
So far this is where i have got to with my Contents page draft. I inserted the image and changed the capacity to make it not stand out to much. I then added the title so the audience new what it was this page and so they could be informed on what they will find within the magazine. I also added in the voucher that will allow students to get 10% off in selected stores. I used the dashed line to make it look more professional as this is what is usually seen when you can cut something out.
Next lesson, I hope to add more to the contents page and make the text stand out. If I am unable to make it stand out enough for the audience to read properly, I will also go back and lighten the picture even more.
My contents page final draft
This is an image of my final draft of my contents page. I made the capacity of the background even lighter so that the text would stand out, but to increase this, also made the text bold. I have used the same colours as what I have used on the font page so that the ethos is continued throughout and so it looks all part of the same magazine. I sectioned each part of the magazine off so that it is clear to students where things are within the magazine. The first section is based about the college. This is so that the students can get a good insight in to the college and to find out what it's about and also what it has to offer. I then added a quiz at the bottom of this section to keep it fun for the teenage audience. The next section is about revising for exams. This keeps the magazine aimed at the right audience as this magazine will be published around the time of year 11 students starting to take their exams. The next section is based all about Prom. This is because there will be a massive interest about this as they will soon be attending their own Prom. This will give the students some idea on types of travel, colours that are most favourite, and types of styles. This again keeps the audience reading the magazine as it based around this age group only. The last section of the magazine is based around puzzles. This keeps the magazine fun and gives the students something to do at the end of the magazine if they wish too.
I think that the strongest part of my draft of my contents page would be the voucher. My reason for this is because I think that it looks kind of realistic. I used a dashed line around the outer edge and also added in a small image of scissors as this is what is usually found when you are able to cut something out and used smaller text at the bottom as terms and conditions of the voucher. On the back it will list the selected stores available for them to shop in. This again keeps it real because this is the basic format of a real voucher.
